Annual or perennial herbs, pubescent throughout. Leaves simple, narrow; margins entire to pinnatifid, pubescent with 2-4 pronged hairs. Inflorescence of racemes. Sepals 4 erect or connivent; petals yellow to pink or red, obovate or spathulate, narrowed into a long claw. Fruit elongate, 4-angled, hairy; seeds in 1 row. Worldwide: 150 species native to the Mediterranean, south-west Asia, Micronesia and North America. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
