Evergreen, monoecious tree. Leaves in 5 ranks, directed upward and curved inwards. Male flowers sessile, oblong, forming short spikes at the end of the branchlets. Female flowers spherical, solitary at the end of short branchlets. Cones persistent after shedding the seeds; scales woody, wedge-shaped, enlarged above into a disk bearing a recurved mucro and 2-3 rigid processes. Seeds triangular-oblong, narrowly winged. Worldwide: One species in Japan and southern China Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
