Description of the genus

Shrub, with extraordinary flat, jointed, glabrous, ribbon-like branches. Leaves fugacious, borne on young or sterile shoots. Flowers in sessile clusters at the joints. Perianth 4-5-merous. Styles 3. Fruit berry-like, red or purplish, enclosing the triquetrous achene.

Worldwide: 1 species, endemic to the Solomon Islands

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
