Perennial herbs or shrubs, aromatic. Stems erect branched with fine hairs at the tips. Leaves simple, linear. Flowers, small, blue, borne on the upper part of the branches. Calyx regular, lobes triangular, cuspidate; corolla strongly 2-lipped, the upper lip small, obovate, shallowly 2-lobed. The lower lip much larger with lateral lobes bent upwards. Fruit consisting of smooth ovoid nutlets. Worldwide: 8 species native to the Mediterranean and east to Mongolia. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
