Description of the genus

Unarmed trees. Leaves alternate, 2-pinnate. Flowers numerous, borne in heads, these solitary, clustered or racemose. Flowers whitish. Stamens many, exserted, united at the base. Fruit a flat curved indehiscent pod.

Related to Albizia, but our species of Enterolobium is easily separated from our species of Albizia by the coiled black pods.

Worldwide: 5 species occurring in tropical America

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
