Description of the genus

Grey, hairy, annual or short-lived perennial herbs or small shrubs up to 1 m high. Leaves with fine hairs and containing essential oils. Flowers in dense terminal spikes rising above the foliage, blue, violet or lilac.

Worldwide: 47 species from the Mediterranean area.
