Description of the genus

Herbs; rhizomes red. Leaves linear, glabrous to hirsute; margins entire. Inflorescence a raceme with numerous 3-4 helicoid cymes; axes and bracts canescent. Flowers zygomorphic, yellow to purplish, imbricate. Fruit ovoid, trilobed, canescent. Seeds ovoid with dark brown tomentum.

Worldwide: 4 species in South Africa.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
