Tall shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite, simple, elliptic-oblong or broadly lanceolate, acuminate, coarsely serrate, glabrous with prominent parallel pinnate veins. Flowers yellowish in dense globular heads on peduncles, often in a terminal cluster, Sepals 4-5, free. Petals absent. Stamen much longer than sepals. Derivation of name: from the Greek: kalos meaning beautiful and kome meaning hair, a reference to the beautiful furry flowers. Worldwide: Native to Australia. One species only. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
