Description of the genus

Shrubs, rarely perennial herbs; succulent, glabrous or pubescent; stems erect, usually branched. Leaves crowded in rosettes at the end of branches. Inflorescence cymes, terminal; flowers pedicellate, erect or spreading. Sepals basally connate; petals spreading or erect, cream or bright yellow. Fruit erect; calyx and corolla not circumscissile in fruit. Seeds ellipsoid, ribbed.

Worldwide: 35 species in Atlanic Islands, Southern Morocco, East Africa and Southern Arabia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
