Description of the genus

Shrubs. Leaves alternate or opposite. Heads solitary or in compound inflorescences. Involucre broad-hemispherical to narrow ovate; bracts imbricate in several rows. Receptacle pitted, without scales. Ray florets in a single row, white or blue. Disc florets tubular. Pappus of numerous, usually unequal capillary bristles.

Worldwide: About 180 species native to Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
