Hutchinson, J. (1972) British Wild Flowers David and Charles
Dwarf perennial herbs, with a short rootstock. Leaves all basal, spoon-shaped, toothed and pubescent. Inflorescence single, on a long stalk from each tuft of leaves; bracts very dark green, narrowly oblong, in two rows, with hairs on the outside. Ray-florets numerous in 2-3 rows, white or with the tips tinged pink; disc flowers numerous, rich cream/yellow. Fruit an achene, slightly hairy, without a pappus. Worldwide: 8 species in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
