Description of the genus

Trees. Leaves alternate, imparipinnately compound; leaflets opposite, petiolate, without stipules. Flowers in axillary racemiform panicles, actinomorphic. Sepals 3-5 basally connate; petals free, 3-5. Fruit a several-seeded drupe.

Worldwide: About 100 species native to North America, West Indies, Mexico, Central and South America.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
