Description of the genus

Evergreen root climbers with hairs; shoots either vegetative, woody and clinging by adventitious roots or reproductive shoots ascending to erect, ending in the inflorescence. Leaves from vegetative shoots circular or angular, glossy on the upper side. Inflorescence of terminal umbels; flowers greenish, 5-parted. Fruit drupe-like.

Worldwide: Number of species uncertain, ranging from 5-22. Common from Mediterranean to Japan.
