Description of the genus

Perennial herbs, erect or trailing with stolons and watery juice. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate; intra and interpetiolar glands; margins entire. Inflorescence axillary cymes; flowers solitary or rarely 2-flowered. Flowers calyx small without glands; lobes 5 usually equal; corolla violet, funnelform or infundibuliform; tube cylindric, hairy. Fruit paired follicles erect or spreading; cylindric. Seeds numerous, sub-compressed, glabrous.
