Description of the genus

Perennial, bulbous herbs. Leaves appearing after the flowers, oblong somewhat narrow at base. Inflorescence an umbel, 5-many-flowered; sub-tended by 2 large, equal free spathes enclosing the whole umbel when in bud flowers erect or ascending. Flowers perianth bilaterally symmetric; corolla tube short; lobes 6, oblanceolate. Fruit a capsule, dehiscing irregularly.

Worldwide: 2 species in South Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
