Tall, rhizomatous, perennial reeds. Leaves cauline: ligule membranous with minutely ciliate margin. Panicle large, plumose Spikelets with the lowermost floret bisexual; glumes as long as spikelet, 3-5-nerved, lemmas plumose below middle, membranous, 3-7-nerved; apex entire or 2-dentate with a small straight awn. Worldwide: 3 species in the Mediterranean region and Taiwan Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
