TECOMARIA (Endl.) Spach

Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves imparipinnate, opposite; leaflets toothed. Flowers in terminal racemes or panicles. Calyx cupular, 5-dentate. Corolla yellow (in the one naturalised species),orange, red or other colours in cultivated species. Stamens 4, didynamous; filaments with stalked glands below; staminode 0 or 1. Fruit a linear-oblong capsule. Seeds with hyaline wings.

Worldwide: 13 species in tropical and South Africa and tropical America

Zimbabwe: 5 cultivated taxa.
