Description of the genus

Undershrubs or herbs with woody base. Leaves opposite, sessile. Inflorescence a terminal raceme. Lower bracts leafy, decreasing in size towards apex. Pedicels suberect. Flowers 4-merous. Sepals equal. Style persistent. Fruit a capsule, splitting into 4 parts.

Worldwide: 2 species in southern Africa
