Shrub to 3 m tall with spreading-ascending lateral branches. Male inflorescences below female ones, or some branches with male inflorescences only.

Succulent herb, wilting. Stems decumbent, to 40 cm tall, fleshy, purplish. Florets white, capitula small (c. 0.5 cm diam.).

Shrubby tree. Flowers slightly over here but seen elsewhere, creamy-white. Fruits chestnut-brown when mature, held above horizontal leafy branches.
