Common names:
Frequency: Frequent

Description:
Perennial herb growing from corms. Leaves narrowly lanceolate to linear, thick and leathery, in this form usually fully developed at flowering time. Flowers normally pale to bright pink with darker markings on the lower tepals but other colourforms do locally occur.
Notes: Although not separated taxonomically, 2 very distinct forms occur. One is a robust plant (see images above), often with branched flowering stems, fully developed leaves and large flowers, which flowers towards the end of the rains from February to June. The other is a more slender plant with simple inflorescences, flowering before the leaves are fully developed. It normally appears after grass fires before the rains, from August to November.
