Description:
Evergreen succulent perennial, stemless or with a short stem. Leaves in a dense rosette, sword-shaped, 1-1.8 m long and 10–15 cm broad at their widest point, narrowing to 6–7 cm at the base, and to with a sharp spiny tip; margins entire or with a few hooked spines. Inflorescence up to 7.5 m tall. Flowers greenish to creamy white, 4 cm long, strongly scented.
Notes: This species has definitely become naturalised and sometimes forms fairly extensive colonies in secondary vegetation. Occasionally it can be invasive in woodland.
Biegel also mentions a cv. 'Striata' as a cultivated plant.
