Description:
Somewhat fleshy, hairless or glandular-pubescent annual herb with creeping to erect stems 20-40 cm long, rooting at the lower nodes. Leaves opposite, mostly sessile, clasping the stem, ovate to lanceolate-oblong, 35-70 mm long; margin shortly toothed to sub-entire; petiole only distinct in lowermost leaves. Inflorescences axillary in many-flowered racemes 3.5-10 cm long. Flowers c.4 mm in diameter, more or less pale blue with darker stripes, mostly 4-lobed.

Habitat: Wet places along margins of rivers, streams and marshes.

Worldwide distribution: Its origins are now unclear but it is now widespread throughout the northern temperate areas and upland areas in Africa.
