Description:
Perennial herb or subshrub, up to 1 m high. Stems somewhat 4-angular, mostly annual, except in areas protected from fire. Leaves opposite, rarely 3-whorled, narrowly lanceolate to elliptic, short straight hairs above and on the veins below, gland dots on both surfaces, aromatic when crushed; margins crenulate-serrulate, often entire in the lower third. Inflorescences densely many-flowered. Bracts much longer than the flowers, ovate, pointed, densely pubescent. Corolla cream to pale yellow.

Habitat: In various types of woodland, grassland, along margins of vleis, in riverine vegetation and along roadsides. Mostly in sandy soils but also in disturbed areas.
