Description:
Stout succulent, sparely branched shrub up to 3 m high. Branches up to 5 cm in diameter, covered in rhomboid tubercles pp to 15 mm in diameter, hairless. Leaves subsessile, obovate lanceolate, up to 12 cm long, blue-green, hairless; margin entire. Inflorescences in axillary and terminal branched heads, on leafy branches, arising from the axils of the tubercles. Bracts sessile, deltoid, up to 3.5 cm long. Flowers unisexual in the same inflorescence. Capsule subglobose, 3-lobed, up to 13 mm long, exserted on a curved pedicel, c. 1 cm long.
