Description:
Terrestrial herb 27-38 cm tall growing from conical pseudobulbs partly above ground, c. 5 x 1 cm; leaves 3-5 in a tuft, 10 -25 cm long and less than 1 mm wide, grass-like, linear, just starting to develop at flowering time; inflorescence laxly flowered; scape with several sheaths; flowers spreading, sweetly scented, yellow or yellow-green, lip ± purple veined; bracts c. 7 mm long, linear-lanceolate, acuminate; ovary and pedicel 10-11 mm long; sepals all similar, spreading, linear-spathulate, slightly recurved at tips 12-15 x 1.5-2 mm; petals 8-11 x 2-3 mm, oblong to lanceolate-oblong, obtuse, lying over column; lip 10.5-13 x 5-6.5 mm, 3-lobed; mid-lobe 4-6 x 3-4.5 mm, elliptic or obovate elliptic, margin crenulated, callus of 3 ridges running from the base to the junction of the side lobes, turning to tubercular keels on the mid lobe; side lobes obliquely triangular; spur 4-5 mm long, cylindrical but slightly swollen at apex, slightly curved.
Notes: Although listed By Grosvenor in Kirkia 6: 81 (1976). This is doubtful since the species is otherwise only known from western Zambia and is absent in all other literature referring to Zimbabwe.
Derivation of specific name: macaulayae: named after Macaulay, collector of the type specimen.
