Description:
Tufted annual, up to 45 cm tall with 3-angled hairless stems. Leaves linear, up to 37 cm long, flat to folded, scabrid on margins and veins. Bracts 2-4, leaf-like, spreading, 2–4, 14–30 cm long. Inflorescence with 3-8 primary branches, up to 11 cm long. Spikelets in irregular clusters, sessile, 4–14.3 mm long; rachis straight to zigzag. Glumes obovate to rounded, 1.4–1.9 mm long, golden brown with an uncoloured margin; keel greenish. Stamens 2–3. Nutlets dark brown to almost black, ellipsoid-obovoid, 1.3–1.6 mm long, 3-sided.
