Description:
Branched or unbranched herb, up to 1.1 m tall. Leaves whorled, at least in the inflorescence, sometimes irregular below. Leaves: lamina up to 8.5 × 1.3 cm, narrowly linear or linear-spathulate. Flowers 3-16 per node. Calyx segments with appressed hairs. Corolla lobes spreading to reflexed, green, very rarely purple, glabrous to pubescent. Corona of Type A (sensu Kupicha). Fruit 7.5 - 9 cm long, fusiform, bearing appressed bristles.
Notes: The only species of Aspidoglossum in Zimbabwe with leaves in whorls.
Derivation of specific name: nyasae: from Malawi (Nyasaland)
Habitat: In montane grassland, often among rocks, in open Brachystegia woodland or scrub.
Altitude range: (metres) 1100 - 1700 m
