General Information

Date of birth: 28 Sep 1941

Biography

South African ecologist and herpetologist, who worked for more than 30 years as a wildlife biologist for the Natal Parks Board, retiring as head of the Biodiversity Division in 1996.
He has described a number of reptile species, and is co-author of The South African Tortoise Book (1988), the first book to survey South African tortoises, turtles, and terrapins. It was revised and expanded as The Southern African Tortoise Book (2000).
Since 2003 he has lived in Columbus, Montana.

He recently spent 3 months on a large privately owned game farm in the Central Kalahari compiling lists of vertebrates and plants, and selected invertebrates for the Modisa Wildlife Project.
He has kindly made his records and images of plants from the area available to our Online Botswana Flora.
