Description of the genus

Annual to perennial herbs, stiffly bristly-hairy. Inflorescence of terminal branched racemes. Sepals with inner pair slightly saccate. Petals yellow. Stamens 6. Fruit of 2 segments: the lower slender, containing 0-2 seeds, separated from upper by a constriction; upper larger, 1-seeded and falling at maturity. Seeds ovoid.

Worldwide: 2 species in C Europe, the Mediterranean region and W Asia

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
