Description of the genus

Stems subterranean, warty. Calyx lobes each bearing a white spongy body. Anthers forming a short ± cylindric ring on calyx tube or bent in an inverted V-shape. Stigma 3-5-lobed, bearing numerous radiating lamellae. Fruit spherical, filled with gelatinous pulp. Seeds spherical.

Worldwide: c. 5 species in Arabia, tropical and South Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
