Description of the genus

A floating aquatic herb. Fronds with 3-7 veins, surrounded at the base by a bifid scale covering the place of the root attachment. Roots 2-7 all perforating the scale. The scale-like leaf surrounding the flowers open on one side.

Derivation of name: after Elias Landolt, for his outstanding contribution to the study of the Lemnaceae

Worldwide: 1 species, originally from Australia and Asia, now distributed nearly worldwide

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
