Description of the genus

Herbs. Leaves alternate, sometimes radical. Capitula pedunculate, in loose cymes or solitary, homogamous, discoid or radiate. Calyculus 0. Phyllaries in 1 series. Receptacle without scales. Flowers bisexual. Style branches with an acute appendage. Pappus of copious fine white soft setae.

Worldwide: 100 species in the Old World tropics (3 species now pantropical weeds)

Zimbabwe: 10 taxa.
