Description of the genus

Annual herbs (in ours), creeping, prostrate or decumbent. Leaves opposite or the upper alternate. Flowers solitary, axillary, pedicellate. Bracts 0. Calyx 5-lobed. Corolla 2-lipped; tube short, produced at front into a spur; posterior lip 2-lobed, anterior lip 3-lobed. Stamens 4, didynamous; anther-thecae confluent. Capsule subspherical, loculicidal.

Worldwide: c. 9 species from tropical E and southern Africa and Madagascar

Zimbabwe: 3 taxa.
