Common names: Fomwe (Shona) Mubondo (Shona) Mun'ando (Shona) Pride of the Cape (English) Red bauhinia (English)
Description: A shrub, often scrambling and climbing into surrounding trees. Leaves simple up to 7 × 7 cm, very broadly ovate but 2-lobed at the apex for about a quarter of the length, 3-5-veined from the base. Flowers deep salmon to brick red, in large clusters near the ends of branches. Pod up to c. 10 cm long, brown when ripe.
Notes: The long lasting flowers make a beautiful display.
