Description of the genus

Herbs, perennial; rhizome short; stolons procumbent, long filiform bearing adventitious roots and forming plantlets at nodes. Stipules paired, adnate to base of petiole, persistent. Leaves radical, several; stolon leaves alternate, long-petiolate; lamina trifoliate, leaflets with margins dentate. Inflorescence axillary, ebracteate, flowers solitary; sepals 5, persistent; epicalyx segments 5, larger than and alternating with sepals, margin incised; petals 5, yellow, obovate. Fruit aggregates of achenes formed from enlarged receptacle, hemispheric or turbinate, fleshy; achenes seated on surface of aggregated fruit, compressed, ovoid, minute. Seeds reniform, smooth.

Worldwide: Species 2; Europe to South East Asia and Japan.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
