Description of the genus

Shrubs, climbing or sprawling, evergreen or semi-evergreen, stem densely branched, hairy. Leaves alternate, lamina ovate, apex acute or obtuse, surface wrinkled with prominent venation. Inflorescence of panicles or subcorymbose cymes, terminal, hairy; calyx tubular-campanulate, lobes 5, short; corolla tube narrow, spirally twisted at base, yellow-orange or reddish, basally greenish, lobes 5, broad, appearing 2-lipped. Fruit capsules, leathery, dehiscing by 2 bifid valves.

Worldwide: Species 1 in west South America.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
