Description of the genus

Trees, small, evergreen. Leaves alternate, lamina leathery, penninerved. Inflorescence pedunculate umbels enveloped by 4 decussate involucral bracts before anthesis, axillary, always in pairs, usually 1 or 3 clusters on short racemes; perianth tube short, lobes 4, sub-equal. Fruit ovoid, perianth tube maybe slightly dilated or ruptured.

Worldwide: 2 species in the Mediterranean region and Macronesian islands.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
