Description of the genus

Vines, woody, deciduous, climbing by aerial roots. Leaves opposite, pinnately compound, leaflets with toothed margins. Inflorescence shortly paniculate, terminal or flowers clustered. Flowers calyx campanulate, sub-leathery, irregularly 5-lobed; corolla red or orange, campanulate-funnelform, slightly bilabiate; lobes spreading. Fruit capsules, loculicidally dehiscent. Seeds numerous, compressed. Membranous with semi-transparent wings.

Worldwide: 2 species; 1 in North America, 1 in China and Japan.

Zimbabwe: 2 cultivated taxa.
