Alyxia Banks ex R. Br.

Description of the genus

Perennial woody lianas, subshrubs or shrubs, evergreen, white latex. Leaves opposite, or whorled, petiolate, blade entire. Inflorescences axillary or pseudo-terminal with 1 – many flowers, pedunculate. Flowers aromatic; corolla salver-shaped. Seeds ovoid with a deep ventral groove.

Worldwide: Around 120 species in Asia, Malesia, Australia and Melanesia.

Zimbabwe: 2 cultivated taxa.
