Description of the genus

Perennial succulent shrubs; stems trailing, much branched with distinct internodes between the leaves, base becoming woody. Leaves finger-shaped or 3-angled with curved bases joined across the stem. Flowers terminal or axillary, showy; calyx 5-lobed. Ovary inferior. Fruit a dehiscent capsule. Seeds pear-shaped, rough.

Worldwide: c. 180 species, mainly South Africa, 1 in Australia

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
