Description of the genus

Perennial herbs with tuberous rootstock. Leaves basal, succulent but narrow, few, mostly reduced, bract-like. Inflorescence in pairs, racemose; articulated at apex. Flowers white or reddish; narrow funnel-form tube; segments short, sub-equal. Fruit capsule with a persistent perianth. Seeds flat.

Worldwide: 17 species in Mexico
