Description of the genus

Perennial herbs or soft shrubs. Leaves small, entire or obscurely toothed. Flowers solitary or in few-several-flowered cymes in the axils of leaves along the upper half of the stems Calyx 13-15-nerved, subequally 5-toothed. Corolla scarcely or well exserted from the calyx; upper lip short, broad, emarginate; lower longer, 3-lobed. Stamens 4. Nutlets smooth.

Worldwide: 30 species in temperate and warm regions

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
