Description of the genus

Twining herb. Leaves usually palmately lobes, sometimes entire. Flowers borne in axillary pedunculate, often secund cymes. Sepals 5, aristate. Corolla tubular below, tubular-urceolate above, constricted below, slightly but distinctly curved, serrate at apex. Stamens long-exserted. Style 1, long-exserted. Stigma 2-capitate. Capsule 4-locular, 4-valved.

Worldwide: 1 species in Mexico and S America; widely cultivated in the tropics and subropics and occasionally escaping.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
