Description of the genus

Trees and shrubs. Leaves opposite and decussate, simple, coriaceous. Domatia 0. Flowers small, in paniculate cymes. Calyx (in ours) cup-shaped, subentire with a 4-toothed rim. Corolla with short tube, lobes not hooded. Fruit a usually 1-seeded drupe.

Worldwide: 30 species occurring in the tropics and warm temperate zones of the Old World
